If you were travelling west on the Trans Canada Highway on Saturday morning, you likely had to use an alternate route to get where you were going.

A series of traffic mishaps west of Portage led to the highway being closed between this city and Brandon for most of the morning.

Many of the incidents involved semi-trailers on their sides or in the ditch as a result of slippery conditions.

Members of the MacGregor and Portage Fire Departments were on the scene, aiding efforts to clear the highway. A Portage Fire Department spokesperson told us there was black ice on the highway that morning.

We know two people in one of the semis were taken to hospital, but it's believed their injuries weren't serious.

Yesterday, conditions were better, but still not ideal, and at least one truck was seen on its side.

You're reminded to adjust your driving to the road conditions.
