It was another successful 24-Hour Giving Challenge for the Community Foundation of Portage and District.

It was held November 16th, 2019 and approximately 45-thousand dollars was raised.

Executive Director Mandy Dubois says they were taking donations all day, right up until midnight.

"We collected donations all throughout the 24-hour period online, at our office, and at a couple of locations throughout Portage," says Dubois. "We are really happy with the results."

She says they raised about 75-thousand dollars in 2018, and although they didn't reach that number this year, 2019's event was still a huge success.

"We were down a little bit this year, as far as amount raised, but we are way up in the number of donors that actually gave," says Dubois. "(We are way up] in the number of new donors that actually gave."

Dubois notes, this is key for the fund to grow.

"You don't want to just rely on the same people donating year after year, because that can cause donor exhaustion," says Dubois. "We want to spread the message of the Community Foundation and getting new donors that give to us during the 24-Hour Challenge just will ensure that our endowment fund's going to continue growing in the future."

For every five dollars that was donated that day, one dollar was added by the Province and another was added by the Winnipeg Foundation.
