Racism is the theme of an upcoming workshop in Portage la Prairie.

Local Immigration Partnership Progam Coordinator Mitch Tilk says it's taking place on August 20th and has been entitled Understanding and Dismantling Racism.

"It's being put on by the Portage Learning and Literacy Centre in partnership with my program," says Tilk. "It's being presented by Jackie Hogue. It's from 10:00 a.m. until 4: 00 p.m. The cost is $100 per person. Refreshments and a lunch will be served."

He explains we've seen an increase, first, in anti-Asian discrimination and now some anti-Hutterite discrimination. Tilk adds another factor was the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States that catapulted a lot of these issues to the forefront.

It's a workshop intended to help people understand what racism means in their communities and how to help fix the problems.
