Wee World Day Care executive director Sydney Dubetz-Zecharias says an exciting step was taken toward the opening of the new day care in Portage la Prairie this past Monday at City Council. It's located just the northwest around the corner of the Portage Mall.

"Our lease is getting signed and we're ready to really get this new centre up and running," says Dubetz-Zecharias. "It's a wonderful new building, but everything is so purposeful. You could tell child care was really thought about in the process of this. Everything is very well designed. We are excited and we have such a great vision for the centre. It's going to be wonderful for all the families and will help our community."

She explains they're hoping to open up and operate in early October. Currently, Dubetz-Zecharias says they are looking for a little more help.

"We have some staff that we are going to be moving from our current centres to the new one," notes Dubetz-Zecharias. "We already have a long waiting list of families for the new site, so we'll be able to get children in as soon as we're able to open. It's going to be a 74-kids size."

Dubetz-Zecharias explains this means 20 infants and 54 preschool kids will be accepted.

You can look forward to a ribbon cutting ceremony when a date's been set.
