The Portage la Prairie School Division (PLPSD) will add a new face to the fold this September.

The division announced last week that the nomination process would begin on August 7 for the trustee seat for Ward 3, with an election set for September 18.

Board chair Marie Hélène Hoggarth extends a warm invitation, expressing the board's eagerness to see a diverse range of candidates step forward for the seat.

"It's a very rewarding position and very meaningful. It's towards the education of our children, the future of our community, and our society."

She says that commitment isn't too much, at least not from her point of view.

"We want somebody who's not scared of working. It's not that hard. We have a wonderful senior admin team with which to work with. There are a couple of meetings a month, plus committee meetings."

Outgoing Superintendent Todd Cuddington has limited time on the job before heading to the Middle East but tells PortageOnline he loved his time on the board interacting with trustees.

"I'm hoping it is someone who really wants to make a difference in the lives of kids that will take that position. I strongly encourage people to consider putting their names forward. We've got some great trustees and are looking for one more."

This By-Election will replace the trustee seat left by Yvette Cuthbert, who bid farewell to the school board in May.
