After two days of raising money for Central Plains Cancer Services, the People Helping People Radiothon has concluded.

Initially, the goal of the radiothon was to raise $50,000. However, our listeners came through as always, with the final tally hitting $77,196.

Central Plains Cancer Services Executive Director Sharilyn Knox says she feels overwhelmed.

"We didn't know what to expect when we started this yesterday, and we're just blown away by the support and enthusiasm that we're seeing from people in our region about this!"

Donations poured in both days, in person, online and over the phone. The business community stepped up and so did many individuals and corporations. One donor gave $2000 himself. Then, at the end of the event, Simplot decided they would throw in an extra $10,000.

Knox adds that this highlights what she already knows about Portage and surrounding communities.

"We always step up to the challenge," Knox says with a smile.

The People Helping People Radiothon went from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
