Those struggling to get vaccinated due to lack of transportation will now have an opportunity to get the shots they’re looking for.

The Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) will start offering transportation to flu and COVID-19 vaccine meetings. Executive director Mari Lawrence says they'll be running the transportation on Thursdays, beginning on January 12th and ending on March 30th.

"We'll have somebody who can offer cultural support," explains Lawrence. "So, you can still have your vaccines smudged in some way. You can smudge before you're vaccinated and just have that support with you."

She adds, they're going to prioritize the urban Indigenous population, but she still asks that anyone needing to get to their vaccine appointment reaches out. They'll also be offering food vouchers, which were very well received from previous programs.

"It's always worthwhile to go to your trusted healthcare professional," mentions Lawrence. "We'll be offering rides to the place of choice. You can choose to go to your pharmacy or the public health office."

Lawrence says it would also be an excellent time to pick up prescriptions and handle other business regarding your health.
