Selkirk RCMP responded to a small, single-engine airplane crash Monday afternoon in a field off Highway 59.

Police say they were notified of the crash at 2:15 p.m. Selkirk RCMP responded to the plane crash east of Highway 59, near Provincial Road 435 and 31 East, in the RM of St. Clements.

Thankfully, the pilot and lone occupant, a 32-year-old man from Winnipeg, could get out of the airplane on his own. He was checked out and released on the scene by Emergency Medical Services.

The RCMP note that the investigation determined that the airplane had landed and was attempting to take off again when it went into the ditch and rolled.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified about the crash.
