A 77-year-old motorcyclist from B.C. was sent to hospital with serious injuries following a crash that closed Highway 13 north of Carman for a period of time Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, about 6 miles south of Elm Creek, shortly after 9 a.m.

While the southbound lanes of Highway 13 between Oakville and Elm Creek have seen increased traffic due to a detour on the Trans-Canada highway, this was not on that stretch of highway.

According to RCMP, a vehicle heading north of Carman on the highway rear-ended the motorcycle, which was also going north. The driver of the vehicle, a 21-year-old man, was not physically injured.

The RCMP note that the investigation remains ongoing.
