Portage la Prairie is entering a bid to host the largest ongoing multi-sport event in the province.

The City has until December 1st to get its bid in for the 2010 Manitoba Winter Games. An information meeting was held last night to gauge community interest and determine what's required of Portage in order to host the games.

Portage la Prairie's Manager of Community Development Jennifer Sarna was pleased with the turnout at last night's meeting. She says the people in attendance seemed to be excited about the possibility of the city hosting an event of this calibre.

She adds the next two weeks are going to be busy, noting a meeting is planned for next week to start putting names to positions.

Meanwhile Tara Skibo, the Executive Director for the Manitoba Games Council says the 2010 Games are being sought after by eight communities at this point and she believes Portage has an excellent chance based on events the city has hosted in the past.

The games are targeted for athletes between the ages of 10 and 21.  The host city will be determined in March of 2007.
