The city of Portage la Prairie will not be changing its auditors for the foreseeable future.

City council decided during its meeting on September 11th that BDO Canada LLP will remain the auditors for the next three years. Councillor Joe Masi, Chair of the Finance Committee, says they received two offers regarding auditing services, but they decided to stay with BDO.

"Every three years we have to put out a tender," explains Masi. "There is a grading system on points. (It looks at) the ability to do the work, their staffing, and this year we were able to include all our partner organizations in our audit."

The organizations which will be audited as part of this deal are the City, the Portage Regional Recreation Authority, the Portage Planning District, Portage Regional Economic Development, Landfill Authority, Portage Handivan, and the Portage Regional Library.

"I can say from both the council and staff perspective that, in the last audit, the work was well done," notes Masi. "We've had a good relationship with BDO."

Out of a possible 100 points, BDO scored a total of 96.13. The audit will cost the city $55,000 this year, $58,850 in 2024, and $62,970 in 2025.
