December was a slow month for the Portage la Prairie Planning District, but the entire year was not.

General Manager Lynn Anderson says in December, a total of 15 permits were issued for a total price of $448-thousand with 95 per cent of that coming from two permits for two ready-to-move homes. When looking back and comparing the entire year to 2020, 2021 was still a positive one.

"Absolutely, we had a great year. Last year (2020), we had 390 permits for a value of $134-million," says Anderson. "This year (2021), we had 372 permits for a value of $72-million. We still had a great year."

Permit numbers peaked in 2019 when they issued 354 permits worth 197-million dollars. It's been noted these were record years, and the 372 permits for 72-million dollars would be considered an above average year.

"The new singles, we had 38 permits this year, for a value of $13.7-million," says Anderson. "We had 96 repairs this year for a total of $2.7-million. We also had some ready to move homes. We had more this year than we did last year, being 30, for a total of 4.4-million."
