The female U18 AAA Central Plains Capitals split their two home contests this weekend.

Yesterday's outing was an impressive one as the Capitals defeated the third-ranked Westman Wildcats for the first time this year, winning a 4-1 decision. Forward Taylor Bell had an assist on every goal in the outing.

"It felt really good passing to my teammates and watching them score," Bell explains. "It was a good win."

Three of those assists went to Danika Botterill who completed a hat-trick in the outing and the other went to Medah Fletcher. Elyse Denbow got the start in this one and shut the Wildcats out for the first 56 minutes of play.

Today's game, however, was on the other side of the spectrum. The Capitals dropped a 1-0 contest to the Pembina Valley Hawks in a game that was scoreless for over two and a half periods. Bell says they were happy with the way they played defensively but will have to work on converting on their scoring chances.

"We kept it scoreless for almost the whole game and didn't let up many shots. We were pretty even with shots throughout the whole game," says Bell. "We crashed the net and had a lot of opportunities, but just couldn't capitalize."

The Capitals have just two more games this upcoming weekend before the MFHL enters the playoffs. Bell talks about what they want to do in those meetings to prepare for the postseason.

"We need to be more mentally focused to better ourselves," says Bell. "We need to get as many shots on net as possible and just work hard."

Central Plains will have their final home game on Friday as they welcome the Yellowhead Chiefs to the BDO Centre with puck drop set for 7:45.
