In the Southeastern Manitoba Hockey League last night, Portage Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Royals by the 4 minute mark of the first period in Winkler, thanks to Tanner Waldvogel's touch around the net.

However, it wasn't enough as the Isles fell 7-4.

The Royals tied the score by the end of the first period, but Portage's two-goal lead was restored by AJ Spiller and Eric Delong in the second. Winkler made it 4-3 before the period was done.

In the third, the Royals exploded for four goals to seal the victory.

Connor Nichol turned aside 40 shots in a losing cause.

The loss drops the Islanders to 1-and-5 on the season, while Winkler improved to 3-and-3.

The Islanders' next action is Wednesday night, when they visit Notre Dame.
