La Verendrye School in Portage la Prairie's celebrating our cultural history tomorrow (Thursday, March 3rd) with Voyageur Day. Resource teacher Jennifer Borgfjord outlines the day.

"It's a day of celebration to celebrate our history -- honouring our voyageur history. So, we're breaking up into our mixed up grade groups. We have a program here where we split up our kids. There are different grade groups working together rather than always being in our same grade group. We're inside and outside all day long. Hopefully the weather's going to cooperate."

She shares some of the activities taking place.

"We have taffy making, sort of a sled-dog racing, we're going to do some leg wrestling, we have a hay ride coming -- a guy with some horses and some hay. There'll be some fiddle music, story telling, hot chocolate. And so kids will just rotate throughout the stations throughout the entire day. We did a French cultural day very similar to this about four years ago. And we really enjoyed it. And it just kind of got lost in the shuffle, and we sort of resurrected it again this year."
