Kyle McKinstry has entered his 8th year as Principal at MacGregor Collegiate Institute (MCI) and is describing the mood as upbeat, as students flood the hallways and classrooms again.

"Each year, I keep coming back, and it just gets better and better," he continues. "We have got a great vibe at MCI here. The kids are all happy to be back. We've got some amazing staff on board here, and it's been a very smooth transition into our new year."

The first day of classes at MCI took place last Thursday for Grade 9's as they were introduced to their new school, most of them coming from Austin Elementary and McGregor Elementary Schools, with the following day being the first day of school for the remaining grades.

"It's nice seeing them get back together with all their friends. We are looking forward to getting our kids in classes, and our sporting teams and intramural clubs all started up. It's just awesome to get back."

McKinstry adds that he takes great pride in ensuring that every student has all their courses lined up in order to achieve their career goals.

He highlights that a modular classroom delivered by the government is something new to the school, which he hopes will be up and running by the end of September.

"That's going to be our new social workers office. She does amazing work with our students here at MCI three days a week."

McKinstry notes that MCI is already getting back into the swing of things and can't wait for the rest of the 2023-24 year to unfold.
