The Portage Plains United Way made Portage la Prairie resident Sue Pickett happy today, with their 50-50 draw announcement.

She's $6900 richer, and so is the United Way. Board President Mathew Newham says they're 83% of the way to their goal of $247,000, but stresses while that doesn't seem like much, in real dollars it's a lot.

"We're currently at just shy of $206,000, of the $247,000, so 83% sounds really great, but when you put it in a dollar perspective, we've still got a way to go. So we've got a week and a half left, so if people are still considering making corporate donations with their company, or personal donations, they can certainly do that at our United Way office downtown.

Newham understands there are many organizations asking for donations.

"The one thing that we have is investing in our community here in Portage la Prairie, and surrounding area. It's not just Portage that we look after, it's our whole catchment area, which reaches as far as Carman area, out to Austin. And we help those that need a leg up, and there are 12 member agencies that we support."

Here's where you can donate.

And here's how the 50-50 draw looked this morning on MIX 96.5.
