The Portage Terriers completed an amazing late game comeback tonight over the Winnipeg Blues in MJHL action at the PCU Centre.

The two teams were deadlocked at 0, after a penalty filled first period. The Winnipeg Blues had 5 minor penalties in the first, The Terriers had 4.

Blues' forward Taeron Lewis opened the scoring with just under 9 minutes remaining in the second period. Lewis captialized on an unfortunate fall by a Terriers defenseman, and went backhand on a 2 on 0, over Terriers' netminder Nathan Park's blocker. The Terriers still controlled most of the play in the second, but were unable to get one passed the Blues' goalie.

Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller decided to do a little line juggling in the third. Chase Brakel took the centre role between Shawn Bowles and rookie Nick Henry, while Brad Bowles took on wingers Braydon MacDonald and Adam Wowryk. Brakel tied the game for the Terriers on a powerplay with under 9 minutes remaining in the 3rd.

The Brakel line continued to make an impact in the third, pressing until Nick Henry put one top corner to give the Terriers the lead. Shawn Bowles and Brakel each drew assists on the play. Adam Wowryk scored the 3rd and final goal for the Terriers, with assists going to Brad Bowles and Braydon MacDonald.

Terriers' Head Coach Blake Spiller talks about the decision to split up the twins.

"We just seemed to be getting frustrated. We were getting chances -- we know the Bowles', teams key on them -- we talked about it after the second period, and we talked about it earlier that we're probably going to have to split them up the odd time just to give them a bit of a break."

Terriers' forward Chase Brakel talks about his struggle in the first couple of periods.

"I was a little bit frustrated in the first and the second. I was kind of snakebitten and I had a lot of chances, but I just couldn't put it in. Going into the third I started the penalty kill with Shawn. When we got off, he told me I was playing with Shawn and Nick -- and right from our first shift -- we just clicked and got a lot of chances, and put a few in."

The Terriers also knocked off Swan Valley on Saturday Night by a score of 3-0, earning Nathan Park his 3rd shutout of the year. After this weekend the Terriers sit with a 7-1 record, first place in the MJHL. The Terriers are back at it Wednesday when they host Steinbach at the PCU Centre. You can catch the game on CFRY Radio or Portage Online, pre game show starts at 7:20 p.m.
