Teenagers can be addicted to smoking within five months of lighting up their first cigarette.

All it takes is a few cigarettes for a teenager to become addicted to smoking.  That according to a recent study out of McGill University, it showed teens can become addicted to smoking within five months of taking their first drag, even if they're social smokers.

Central Plains Cancer Care's Daisy Dowhy says the anti-smoking message needs to start at an early age, as it gives them a better chance at not starting in the first place.

Dowhy adds teens aren't very receptive to the anti-smoking message, and they seem to take an ''I'm Invincible'' approach to the matter.

Dowhy believes added carcinogens and peer pressure are also to blame for addiction in teenagers.
