Following 2021 where snowfall seemingly came at a premium, Club Snow's president says 2022 is looking to be a great year for those with snowmobiles.

Tony McIvor says with the snow in the forecast combined with what we've already experienced, those snowmobiling will have an excellent opportunity to make up for lost time. He notes the focus for right now is making sure all of the trails in Portage are well-kept and ready to go.

"We're working on the trails and it's all volunteer work, so it takes a lot of man-hours," explains McIvor. "But, there are mandates on how the signs at our trails must be, so we have to make sure they're safe before we open them."

He adds they've been able to open about half of the trails, with the other half planning to be opened at some point in the next week. As he looks back on last year, he says the conditions were so terrible, they couldn't open any trails at all.

He notes they're always looking for more help and volunteers.

"We've had lots of people coming out to help and we're always looking for more help," says McIvor. "We've got lots of signings that need to be done, trail clean up, and we need firewood at our warm-up shelters so any help is greatly appreciated."
