The Portage la Prairie School Division's Supervisor of Transportation has moved on after 29 years of working in the division.

Shelley Anderson wore many hats during her time with the division and shared her path over her career.

"I started out as a casual cleaner, and then a regular cleaner. Then I became the clerical assistant at Arthur Meighen High School. I was also a library assistant, and educational assistant, and then I became admin assistant at Arthur Meighen. I moved over to PCI and was the admin assistant in charge of finances at PCI after amalgamation. About five or six years ago, I went into payroll at the division office, and then about three-and-a-half years ago, I went over to operations as the supervisor of transportation."

She shared her thoughts on the work she was most proud of during her time with the division.

"The amalgamation of the two schools was the big one. I worked at Arthur Meighen High School as the admin assistant there during amalgamation, then moved over to PCI. That was a massive undertaking by the school division. Just seeing all the hard work come together, and the success of the combined high school, the programming that could be offered to the students, staff collaboration, it was just amazing to see that all come together."

Anderson adds one thing she wants people to keep in mind when getting involved with the school division.

"Put the students first. That's why you work for the school division, to educate children. Whether you're a cleaner, a school bus driver, a teacher, EA, admin assistant, library, clerical, whatever your role may be in the school division, the goal of the division is to educate children. That's what you need to keep in mind."

She adds that her replacement has already been chosen, and that she'll miss the community of Portage.
