A 42 year-old man has been taken into custody after assaulting officers in St. Andrews.

On April 23, at around 9:20 p.m., Selkirk RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver heading towards Highway 9 in the RM of St. Andrews.

Officers on patrol located the vehicle on at Capri Road and conducted a traffic stop. There were two occupants in the vehicle, a driver and passenger. While the officers were speaking to the driver, the passenger started yelling and swearing at the officers.

The passenger, an adult man, then exited the vehicle, refused to listen to commands to get back in the vehicle and rushed towards the officer, shoving him.  As officials were attempting to place him in handcuffs, he assaulted an officer by punching him and threatened the officers. A taser was deployed and eventually the passenger was placed into custody.

The driver of the vehicle was sober and cooperative.

One officer sustained minor injuries. He did not require medical attention. 

Alexander Chand, 42, has been charged with, Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Harm, Assault on a Peace Officer, two counts of Resisting Arrest, three counts of Uttering Threats and one count of Mischief

He was released from custody on a release order.
