One of the main villages in the RM of Cartier will soon have more residential lots for sale.

Reeve Dale Fossay says they now have some land along Mill Creek in St. Eustache.

The council for the RM of Cartier met on Tuesday."Council has now approved the purchase of some residential property in the Village of St. Eustache," says Fossay. "Some property became available through an estate. It's small. Five acres, but our plan is to provide serviced lots with water and low-pressure sewer, and create a number of residential lots."

He says there are not that many lots for sale in the community, and that's something they've been looking to correct. He says that's why they've been discussing bringing natural gas to the area. He says it would be a selling feature to bring more families in to the village.

"It's something the Cartier municipality has looked at a number of times over the years. There seems to be an interest of having natural gas to that village," says Fossay. "We feel that our municipality, being located between Winnipeg and Portage, with the economic activity increase in Portage, we hope to be able to piggyback on some of that, with both businesses and residential."

Reeve Fossay adds they are moving forward with the idea, but they need to make sure it's affordable for residents.

"We do have some numbers (from Manitoba Hydro) but they were a year old, since we started. We just want to firm up the numbers," says Fossay. "We would be able to make that decision in the next two months. Of course, it would involve a debenture and a borrowing by-law, so there's a public hearing involved, so it's a little bit of a lengthy municipal process."
