On February 6, 2024, Manitoba RCMP officers responded to two separate reports of minors uttering threats involving firearms at two schools in western Manitoba.

One school was in the RM of Alonsa and the other in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

In the first incident, it was reported that a youth had threatened to bring a gun to school. He was detained and no firearm was located. Further investigation determined that he had assaulted two adolescents earlier in the day and also uttered threats.

A 12-year-old boy is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, Assault, and three counts of Uttering Threats.

In the second instance, it was reported that a youth had made threats towards students at his school.

The 12-year-old boy was located at his residence and arrested. He is facing a charge of Uttering Threats.

Both juveniles were released from custody with upcoming court dates.
