A man faces a meeting with MPI after being pulled over for travelling well over the speed limit and having a radar detector in his vehicle.

At 3:22 p.m. on June 6, an RCMP officer, in an unmarked police car, was patrolling Highway 1 when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar was activated and clocked a reading of 180km/h, before the vehicle very quickly slowed to 110 in the clearly marked 110 km/h zone.

Upon approaching the driver’s window, the officer noticed an empty radar detector holder attached to the windshield. Driver admitted to knowing radar detectors are illegal in Manitoba and retrieved his, from the passenger side floor.

The driver has been fined $966 for speeding, $298 for radar detector and has been given a Serious Offence Notice for licence review with MPI.
