The Manitoba government is cautioning the public of a possible SMS phishing scheme related to the Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program.

Recently, there have been reports of citizens receiving text messages inviting them to claim $150 in financial assistance for disaster relief by clicking on fake URLs. Clicking on such links gives scammers the ability to access personal data.

The province stated in a news release that it does not use texting to contact the public about support for this program.
