Two youths from Portage la Prairie were arrested and charged last Saturday after a break-in took place in the RM of Portage.

Police say the incident took place on July 23rd, when Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report that a Break and Enter occurred at a location on Highway #26.

The suspects broke into a building and made off with several firearms.

During the course of  the investigation, two youths were identified, located and arrested.

A 17-year old young man from Portage la Prairie is charged with;  

  • Breaking and Entering to a Steal Firearm
  • Theft Over $5000
  • Possession of a Firearm when knowing Possession is Prohibited
  • Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle  
  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm  
  • Weapons Trafficking
  • & Mischief Under $5000

This youth was held and appeared in court on July 25th and was released on Court Ordered Conditions to abide by, along with another court date in August.  

A 14-year old young man from Portage la Prairie was charged with;  

  • Breaking and Entering to Steal a Firearm  
  • Theft Over $5000
  • Possession of Firearm when knowing Possession is Prohibited
  • Six counts of Weapons Possession Contrary to an Order
  • Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, Unsafe Storage  
  • Weapons Trafficking
  • Mischief Under $5000 
  • Failing to Comply with an Undertaking  

This youth was remanded into custody.

All stolen weapons were recovered.
