Local athletes continue to be involved in major hockey across North America, here is a look at their performances this season.

AHL

Dean Stewart, who was born in Portage and played one and a half seasons with the Terriers, now slots into the Manitoba Moose roster for most games. Stewart has appeared in 25 games so far this season, and has recorded 1 goal and 3 assists. He scored his first of the season the other night. Here is a link to the video of the goal.

Dawson Barteaux of Foxwarren moved teams this offseason to Manitoba and has gotten into 14 games with the Moose as well as 15 games with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. Barteaux has 4 points with the Moose in the AHL this season, 2 goals, and 2 assists.

Ben McCartney of MacDonald regularly plays with the Tucson Roadrunners, the AHL affiliate of the Arizona Coyotes. McCartney has also been added as an assistant captain this season. To date, McCartney has 2 goal and 11 assists for 13 points in 23 games this season. He has missed some time due to injuries and also to call-ups to the NHL.

WHL

Looking at Major Junior, Carberry product Carson Bjarnason, a Philadelphia Flyers prospect, boasts a 15-9-3 record, with a 3.22 goals-against average (GAA) and .901 save percentage (SV%) on the season in 28 games, and is on the mend from a lower-body injury.

Carter Sotheran, also a Flyers draft pick, of Sanford has spent this season so far with the Portland Winterhawks, playing in 43 games and garnering 24 points, one point more than he had all of last season.

Ben Saunderson, also from Carberry, has played 47 games this season for the Saskatoon Blades, posting 25 points, including 4 goals.

Headingley product Rylan Gould has produced 47 points in 45 games up to this point. He is currently in his first year after being eligible for the NHL draft.

NCAA

Logan Calder, a former captain of the Portage Terriers, is in his second season with Salve Regina University, he has 19 points in 20 games so far this season.

Owen Murray, a former Terrier from Decker, MB, is in his second season with the University of Massachusetts. He has 8 points in 18 games, after scoring 3 points last season.

Reilly Funk of Portage la Prairie is in his third season at Northern Michigan University, he has played 13 games and recorded 4 points, 2 goals and 2 assists.

Danika Botterill is playing hockey at the University of New Hampshire. She has 2 goals in 24 games so far this season.

U-Sports

Kian Calder, the captain of the Portage Terriers last season, has begun his first year at the University of Manitoba. So far, through 18 games, Kian has 4 assists to go along with 12 penalty minutes.

Brandon McCartney, the former Terrier is also in U-Sports, playing for the York University Lions in Toronto. McCartney has scored 3 goals and added 2 assists through 18 games this season.

ACHA

Joey Moffat has undertaken his second season with Minot State University after winning the ACHA Championship with the team last year. Moffat has scored 21 points in 26 games this season.

Ava Matthews-McCulley has also rejoined Midland University for her sophmore season and has scored 1 goal and 1 assist in 22 games so far.

USHL

Ryan Botterill has played a solid role for the Youngstown Phantoms in his first year in the USHL, playing 31 games and scoring 26 points, on the strength of 12 goals to this point in the season.
