When the weather is out of your control, the Portage Community Revitalization Corporation thinks it's better to celebrate it than to complain about it. PCRC member Stefanie McKim explains they are working with a number of other community groups to put together a day to make the most of the winter.

"Winterfest is going to be a huge celebration of winter and snow and all of the things we can't escape in January in Manitoba. There's going to be outdoor skating, we're bringing in a dog sledder and she's going to do some demonstration, let people get to know the dogs and get to know that process. We'll have an outdoor fire pit so that people can roast hotdogs and marshmallows or warm up if it's chilly."

The PCRC is teaming up with Recreational Opportunities for Kids, Newcomers’ Welcome Centre and Portage Regional Economic Development to put on the event and McKim says that's a very exciting aspect about the event.

"We're bringing together all of these community agencies and organization to produce this really great large scale event. I think that's one thing our community really needs to do more of, is work together on serving the community. When we can band together and make great things happen, it's all the more better for those residents and our community as a whole."

Winterfest will be held January 31st from 1-3 PM at the north memorial outdoor skating rink.
