A humid Saturday which turned out to be the hottest day so far in 2024 resulted in severe thunderstorm watches around the region last night. The temperature in Portage was close to 29 Celsius with a humidex of 36 when the first alerts were issued just after 5  p.m.

While there were many reports of thunderstorms all across the region late last night and overnight, things did not get as severe as they did earlier in the week when tornadoes were spotted in the Swan Lake area and the biggest issue appeared to be plenty of power outages around the Central Plains. While most of those outages were repaired while people were sleeping, there were still a few affecting some spots in the city of Portage la Prairie as of 10 a.m.

Although the wind is expected to be an issue for Father's Day with gusts as high as 70 km/h possible, thunderstorms have moved out of the region and all watches and warnings issued by Environment Canada have ended.
