It should be a good start to the growing season according to those at Miller Agritech in Oakville. Darcy Miller says they hope for a dry spring every year.

"if we weren't optimistic I don't think we'd even be farming. We always hope for the best with every upcoming season. Last fall we froze up wet, and we haven't really had any significant snowfall as of yet, so a dryer spring is always on our side. Soy bean business has been brisk as it has been in the last couple of years. I don't see a drop in acreage, but we do see cereal side slowing. Maybe farmers are just making their minds up yet, it's not quite clear."

He says their seeding sales have been doing quite well on the soybean side.

"People have been in booking, we have discounts and as we get toward spring they diminish. So we have seen a fair amount of soybeans, on the wheat, barley, and oat side, it has been slow, and talking to other retailers, they seem to equal the same sentiments I have. It's always exciting when Spring is around the corner, and we get a fresh chance to go at it for another year."

Miller's confident there won't be a drop in acreage for soybeans, but says the cereals have been slowing down.
