Portage la Prairie is the host of the first-ever Giveaway Days this weekend, organized by the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC). This initiative aims to promote sustainability, encourage community engagement, and give residents an opportunity to declutter their homes while giving their unwanted items a new life.

Participants can join in by placing their unwanted, reusable items at the curbside on Saturday morning, marked with a sign that says "FREE."

Mari Kozar, the Executive Director for the PCRC, shares details about the event.

"Hopefully the items will be gone by the end of the weekend." Kozar notes. "If they're not gone, you can remove them Sunday night and try to repurpose them as you can. We've got lots of thrift stores in town. We also have a great recycling center as well, if any of your items can go there."

To keep participants informed, PCRC will actively post on their social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, and share information on their website. Kozar suggested things suitable for giveaway, such as furniture, dishes, pots and pans, yard tools, artwork, sports equipment, and toys. All items should be in good condition, and it's important to respect others' property when picking up items.

The partnership between PCRC and the City of Portage has worked well for planning this event, and Kozar hopes it becomes an annual tradition in the community.
