Several people in the community have noticed the presence of Police cruisers driving around Yellowquill School earlier today.

Manitoba First Nation Police Service Inspector Dave Scott explains what was happening.

"Earlier this morning our members were actually called by the RCMP to assist on a suspect that had been at the school in a threatening manner," says Scott. "Our police members attended and circulated the area of the suspect. It wasn't until just now (9:45 a.m.), actually, that the suspect was located by our members and detective who was out in the field searching for this fellow."

He notes the man was arrested in an intoxicated state. Scott says RCMP are following up on their part in the investigation that stemmed from a call from Yellowquill School.

"Good work by our members here that were in the Keesh to get somebody who was threatening so close to the Portage community and the school," continues Scott. "It's outstanding police work to follow up on and to get this guy in custody."
