Two games down, two ticks in the win column for the Portage Padres.

The Santa Clara Baseball League (SCBL) has been underway for a little over a week and the Padres find themselves as one of two undefeated teams left. They share that distinction with the Plumas Pirates, last year's champions.

The Padres have relied heavily on their offensive power to start the season, outscoring the opposition in their first two games by a total of 28-12. They first crushed the Carberry Royals 16-7 and continued their winning ways by demolishing the Neepawa Cubs 12-5.

The Padres have had some explosiveness at the plate, with nine players hitting above a .300 batting average. Carson Dubois and Tanner Jago lead the team in that category, holding averages of .667 and .625 respectively.

The Padres have 13 more regular season games to establish themselves as the SCBL's best and if they claim the regular season pennant, they'll head to a provincial tournament. There are still playoffs after that, but it'll be the team with the best regular season receiving the invite, not necessarily the championship team.

The Padres kick off their home campaign on May 28 when they line up against the Minnedosa Mavericks.
