On March 11, at around 3 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a shoplifter at a business located in the 2200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage. 

Officers were advised that a male suspect had entered the store, began removing items from the shelves and placed them into his backpack.

When confronted by employees, the suspect denied the theft and exited the store on foot.

As responding officers pulled up to the business, the suspect was observed nearby and arrested without incident.

A search of the suspect led to the seizure of a concealed replica firearm as well as the recovery of the stolen items.

Jonathan Shore, 30, of Regina, was found to have an outstanding Warrant of Arrest out of Calgary. 

He was remanded into custody on charges of Theft Under $5,000, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and three counts of Weapons Possession contrary to an Order.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
