Two men from Portage and one from Langruth were among 43 people receiving decorations for bravery today from Governor-General Michaelle Jean.

Ken Klassen and Brent McDonald were recognized with Medals of Bravery for rescuing three kids from a burning house in October of 2003.

Klassen brought six-month-old twin girls out by himself, and was joined by McDonald in searching for a six year old boy.

Meanwhile, RCMP Constable Eyvi Smith, formerly of Langruth, received his Medal of Bravery for actions during a fire in October of 2004. He attempted to rescue a man from the third floor of an apartment complex in Whitehorse, Yukon. Smith managed to get the man out, but was unable to keep him alive.

All three received their medals at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
