The wheels continue to turn when it comes to making the Koko Platz site better than ever.

Recently, the Rec Club had to demolish the old rink site as they prepare for the future.

Colby Orchard from the Board of Directors says that the group set out a $500,000 fundraising goal, and so far, they're almost halfway there.

"We're way ahead of where we expected to be at this point," says an enthused Orchard.

He explains that this project is very meaningful for him as he spent a lot of time at the old Koko Platz Rec Club during his youth.

"It needs to be replaced," he continues. "The fact that we're going to have a brand new facility will be just amazing."

Orchard adds that while it is sad to see the old rink go, it's a step in the right direction to where the group wants to be.

Those looking to support the cause have two chances next month when Portage Rotary Club holds a pond hockey tournament from February 10th-12th as well as a fundraising social on the 11th. All proceeds will go toward the clubhouse and rink.

"We thank everyone for their generous support so far, and just we're really looking forward to continuing this fundraising push and getting to that goal of $500,000," says Orchard.

Orchard notes that more details on the rebuild project will become available in the coming months.

The original Koko Platz Rex Club was burnt down in 2021, and now we can see the light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the rebuilding efforts.
