Portage la Prairie has gone green in preparation for St. Patrick's Day this coming Sunday.

Heather Graham with the Holiday Avenue Project tells PortageOnline that the decorating of Portage for St Patrick's Day was delayed this year due to unfavourable weather.

"Everything should have gone up the week before, but it was so stormy, and safety comes first when we're out there setting up. So, we decided to get them up this past weekend. We're very happy the way it turned out and we hope that everyone enjoys looking at them as they're driving down Saskatchewan Ave!"

Graham says that she hopes the decorations add to the atompshere around town.

"That's our whole intent right from the beginning, to just bring a little bit of life to the street."

Graham has been involved in the Holiday Avenue Project for the past two years and says the group gets a great deal of joy and satisfaction from decorating the city for holidays such as Christmas, Valentine's Day, and St. Patrick's Day.

"We've got a great group of gals on the executive and a fantastic bunch of volunteers who come out when we need them. We couldn't do it without them," she continues. "There's a lot of background work that goes on to it. It only takes us about an hour to get them into the pots. But we try to keep it pretty organized and get the decorations all ready before we go out to put them in the display."

None of this would have been possible without the help of local businesses donating, according to Graham.

"We're a nonprofit, and we really appreciate any help we can get through donations. Nothing is too small."
