An incident at the intersection of the Trans-Canada and Highway 305 left a man without his license and his vehicle.

On May 23rd, Portage la Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at Highway #1 and Highway #305. An SUV had run into the back of a semi.

The semi driver drove away, maybe unaware of what had occurred, but the SUV’s airbags had been deployed and the vehicle was no longer drivable.

Officers arrived and spoke to the driver of the vehicle and observed a smell of alcohol and could see open liquor in the vehicle.

The officer asked the driver to provide a breath sample on a Roadside Screening Device. The results were a fail.

The 29-year-old driver from Ebb and Flow First Nation was issued and Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition. He has lost his license for 90 days and the vehicle was towed and impounded for 30 days.

He was not injured in the collision.
