It was a chance to say thanks.

City Councillor Jeff Bereza, BDO Dunwoody's Mark Verwey, and Deputy Fire Chief Phil Carpenter met with Hockey Night In Canada's Ron MacLean this afternoon at the Glesby Centre.

They were there for a demonstration of a defibrillator unit similar to one coming to Centennial Arena. Verwey got the idea from watching MacLean's feature on Hockey Day In Canada.

MacLean feels having these units is important because of the growth of hockey among the 40 to 60 year age group, which he calls especially vulnerable.
He's impressed with the partnership between the City and BDO to bring a defibrillator to Portage, adding it's a great initiative.
