9.7 million dollars in funding for the Canada Volunteerism Initiative has been scrapped by the federal government.  The funding cut affects a variety of volunteer groups including the local Canadian Volunteer Initiative.  Dawn Froese was recently named chairperson for the group, she's disappointed with the announcement.  The funding was the Canadian Volunteer Initiative's only source of income.  Froese is unsure of what action needs to be taken, however she will be meeting with the provincial representative for the Canadian Volunteer Initiative in the near future.
By eliminating this funding Froese says the federal government is showing volunteerism is not a major priority and not an important issue.
