The Central Plains RCMP has released the weekly report for the period between April 15 and April 21. The report covers Portage la Prairie, Treherne, Amaranth and the surrounding Rural Municipalities.

On April 21, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of breaking and entering at a building on Campbell Avenue in High Bluff. 

Several items, including a chainsaw and other tools were taken in this event. 


Just before 10:00 p.m. on the same day, Portage RCMP received a report of a disturbance at an address in the 500 block of 11th Street NW. Officers arrived and located a 30-year-old man from Portage, and placed him under arrest. 

During the search of the suspect, ammunition was discovered in his pocket. The man was on two court-ordered conditions not to possess any ammunition. He was charged with two counts of Weapons Possession Contrary to an Order. 

He was held and appeared in court the following day.


Calls for police service totalled 231, which is a slight decrease from the 233 calls the previous week.

Under Traffic Violations, there were 40 Highway Traffic Act reports, 6 Vehicle Collisions and no reports of Impaired Drivers. 

Crimes Against Person reports included 8 Assaults, 2 Assaults with a Weapon, as well as 5 reports of Uttering Threats. 

Crimes Against Property detailed 20 Thefts, 2 Thefts of a Motor Vehicle, 3 reports of Breaking and Entering and 8 calls regarding Mischief. 

Other statistics included 49 calls for Other Criminal Investigations and 62 for "Other Police Activity," meaning False Alarms, Suspicious People or Vehicles, and Assistance Given. 

The day that saw the most action from the RCMP was Tuesday, April 16, which included 41 calls for service.
