Parliament re-convened yesterday with the Trudeau government's Speech from the Throne.

The Speech has raised several concerns for Portage-Lisgar MP Candice Bergen. One of those is ending the Universal Child-care Benefit.

"We're not sure what that looks like. We only know that the universal part of the Universal Child-care Benefit will be ended. And that's something that I know will be of concern to a lot of the families in Portage-Lisgar."

She's also worried about changes planned for environmental approval processes.

"The reason that's so important is we know right now the energy sector -- the oil patch in Alberta -- is really struggling. Tens of thousands of people being laid off, there are low oil prices, new taxes, new regulations in Alberta. And we know the economic driver that industry is for Canada, and certainly even in southern Manitoba we feel the benefits."

Bergen also points to the massive spending outlined in the Speech.

"Spending money that we don't have. And that means spending the money of our children, our grandchildren, future generations. So, obviously, that's something that's concerning. As an individual I'm concerned about that, as a Conservative, and as the Member of Parliament for the riding of Portage-Lisgar."
