Last weekend, McMunn and Yates Building Supplies hosted a Show and Shine event, drawing motorcycle enthusiasts and community members across Manitoba to Portage la Prairie. The event featured a raffle for a prebuilt shed, and raised funds to support the Army and Navy, as well as the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 65 in Portage.

The store manager, John Doyle, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support.

"We raffled off a prebuilt shed with 300 tickets available, and all 300 tickets were sold," Doyle stated. "The end result is a donation of $1500 each to the Army and Navy, and the Royal Canadian Legion in Portage."

The Show and Shine event saw a significant turnout, with around 50 to 55 motorcycles on display at its peak, with the customer parking lot being full at all times. Despite varying weather conditions throughout the day, spectators and participants enjoyed the event, showcasing a growing interest in the community.

"We had bike clubs from Brandon, Shilo, Winnipeg, and local clubs joining us. It's great to see this event growing year by year."

When asked about the importance of supporting veterans' organizations, Doyle emphasized the significance of helping these longstanding groups.

"These are organizations that have been around for a very long time," Doyle remarked. "They often struggle with membership and support, so anything we can do to help, we're happy to."

Plans to have another Show and Shine in the future are being considered.

"We're going to take a good look at it. Maybe the timing needs to change a little bit, but moving forward, this is a good event to have for the community."

The success of this year's Show and Shine demonstrated the community's strong support for veterans within our commuinity.
