It was a Sunday on the prairie yesterday at the Fort la Reine Museum in Portage.

Prairie Sundays are family-friendly immersive programs which feature different heritage activities each week, explains Executive Director Madison Connolly. Previous activities have included cinnamon bun baking and croquet, while yesterday featured cross-stitching lessons.

Connolly shares the inspiration behind Prairie Sundays.

"It's another opportunity to invite different audiences into the space here at the museum," says Connolly. "Inviting families, or people who are interested in heritage related activities, is a great way of inviting new audiences. Having something that is also financially accessible is really important, we want to be there for the community."

She notes Prairie Sundays have been very well received.

"We've noticed a spike in our Sunday attendance and people are coming right around the one o'clock mark; just in time to see the museum and also take part in the activities," says Connolly. "[Yesterday] we did cross-stitching and next week will be candle making then, after that, ice cream making."

Prairie Sundays continue until August 26th.
