Jaxen Sierens of Trehene is getting the chance to fulfill one of his lifelong dreams this week. The young boy was diagnosed with a large tumor on his hip a number of years ago and it coudn't be surgically removed. As Jaxen grew, so did the tumor. Jaxen's father Steven says the tumor became so large it was affecting all areas of Jaxen's life.

"The tumor was just so large in mass that it caused constant fractures and pain," says Sierens. "They did hip spicas to hold it in place. The main reason they didn't want to do surgery right away was because it was on the growth plate of the hip, which would cause significant shortening of that one leg. They devised a brace he could wear that would hold everything together."

Because of the brace and the risk that activities would carry, Jaxen wasn't allowed to play any sports other than baseball -- the only sport approved by his doctors. Two weeks ago, Jaxen was finally able to undergo surgery to remove the tumor from his hip and is expected to make a full recovery. This week Jaxen will be travelling with his family to take in a Toronto Blue Jays VIP experience courtesy of the Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day and the Children's Hospital. The Blue Jays are Jaxen's favorite team and he is excited to be able to go. Steven said they actually found out about the trip while Jaxen was still in surgery. So, it was almost an afterthought. He described what it was like to find out his son would be receiving this tremendous opportunity.

"It's unbelievable," says Sierens. "Words can't describe how thankful and grateful we are for being nominated by our town of Treherne, minor athletics, and for Dairy Queen to take our nomination and make it a reality. I can't describe how ecstatic we are about it."

Congratulations Jaxen and family for persevering through such difficult times. Have fun in Toronto!
