The RM of St. Laurent Council's looking at the conditions of play structures in the Laurentia Beach Park.

Reeve Cheryl Smith says they're old, and wouldn't be covered under liability insurance, so they're working with the Laurentia Beach Association to address that. She notes an agreement was signed around 2007 by the Council of the Day and the Association.

"I think that intention was good, obviously, but I think there were certain things that weren't seriously looked at. It's those structures that are in there that cause concern. It's because we have to protect the ratepayers in the RM. Right now, as it stands, those structures, we've been told, they're outdated, and they wouldn't be covered under liability."

Smith points out Council's uncertain what the RM's role would be.

"We would have to look at what grants are available for that sort of thing, and work with the Association, see if we can create some partnerships. Right now, those costs have not been incorporated in our 2016 budget, so those are the sort of things we have to deal with."
