The Christian Heritage Party's candidate for the Portage-Lisgar riding in the upcoming federal election is pleased with the progress his campaign is making.

"We have another debate in Portage next Wednesday at the Friendship Centre," says Jerome Dondo. "I'm going door to door interacting with people on social media, making phone calls and getting out there, and getting the message out."

He notes he's received a good response during his interaction with people in the area and sees more of them asking for signs and voluntarily posting on social media to support his party and his candidacy. Dondo notes he's excited to see the results.

Dondo says he's heard a lot of people say they want to see Trudeau ousted from office.

"Other than that, taxation is a big issue that we're talking about," he continues. "There is also the CHP's Fair Tax Plan based on spending as opposed to the income tax that benefits the wealthier people. Health care is a big one that's coming up as well. We need to invest in better health care systems."

Infrastructure to see proper health care maintained is another big area, for which people would like to see more investment provided. Dondo says people want to see this, seeing as the government is paying for services, and not continue privatizing for people to pay for their own services. He notes the ability to create spaces with private investment, with the government just paying for services, would be huge in reducing wait times. He adds First Nations concerns include eliminating the Indian Act and seeing first nations people go back to their treaties.

Dondo says these are the big three issues, and other issues depend on where individuals are at, in their particular stages of life.
