BOSS Dance Academy held the grand opening to its new location on Sunday.

Onlookers were treated to a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the facility, and special treats.

Bretton Selent is a co-owner of the academy. He talks about how the studio got to this point.

"We were on Saskatchewan Ave for about three or four years, and the Centennial Hall came up for sale, so we kind of made a move on it. It was of one of those things that made sense to offer a better, higher-quality facility for our kids."

Before that, The academy was at the Portage District Arts Centre and has been in existence for 14 years.

Selent talks about what you can expect in their new building.

"We've got 7400 square feet that are primarily going to be used for arts, which is cool. Once all is said and done, we will have two large dance studio spaces, both with a sprung floor, which is like a professional spring floor. Phase two is a 100 seat theatre called the basement theatre, which is located in the basement, where we'll have shows and events."

The flooring itself costs around $16,000 for the studios, but it's well worth the price for the safety of the students.

Selent says just because we're rural doesn't mean we're second best.

"We pride ourselves on being kind of forerunners in the area of really pushing the quality and standards of arts, training and arts programming in the Portage la Prairie area. So, this is just another one of those steps to give Portage and the kids of Portage a high-quality learning facility."

Registration for fall classes is taking place online. You can find out more about the academy here.
