A strong 4th quarter led the PCI Saints to a 60-54 win over Kelvin last night in West Winnipeg Athletic Conference Tier 2 varsity basketball at PCI.

The Saints and Clippers were neck-and-neck throughout most of the game, when the Saints finally broke away in the 4th. Saints' Grade 10 player Shayne Nicolls had 2 key baskets in the 4th, increasing their lead to 6 with 3 minutes to go. The Saints managed to hold off the Clippers late push for the victory.

Nicolls talks about the team's impressive 4th quarter.

"Our fourth quarter was a lot better than the rest of the game, especially because we got to play this team (The Clippers) early in like an early season tournament, so that helped us a lot. Honestly, our boxing out got a lot better toward the end of the game, that's never really been our best, but I think we improved a lot with it. Our passing was really good too, we saw the open people."

The PCI varsity Trojans were also in WWAC Tier 2 action. They controlled their way to a 66-49 victory over Westwood. The Trojans had a 48-32 lead at the half, and they dominated both ends of the court until the final buzzer.

Olavo Williams-Cordeiro led the Trojans with 21 points and gives his thoughts on the game.

"It was a pretty tough game. At first we didn't bring any intensity, but toward the second half we brought it, and got the flow going. From there we just went off."

The Saints' and Trojans' next season match is Monday when they host St. John's.
